Let’s just get one thing established here. Being a mom is not easy and sometimes you just need to have a day to yourself. It doesn’t matter whether you are a stay at home mom or work full-time. No matter what you do, you try to be your best during the worst times.
As a mom, you want what is best for your child and many times we are in doubt because we ask ourselves the same questions. Are we giving our best shot? Are we doing what’s best for our kids?
It’s okay to worry about these things. But sometimes when life can just become too much to handle that is when you know you need a day to yourself. When I found out my grandmother passed away, I wondered how I was going to handle this tragedy while taking care of my daughter. It’s not easy to keep a positive image and I hate to break down or become vulnerable in front of my child.
Even though she is a toddler and has no idea what’s wrong, I always feel the need to stay strong.
That’s why you have to keep yourself busy and have hobbies or a side hustle.
You need to have a day to yourself because it’s not only important for your mental health, but it’s nice to be able to have a break. We spend so much time worrying about others when we really need to take care of ourselves first.
Inspirational ideas on having a day to yourself
1. Retail Therapy
Sometimes when you need a day to yourself, you just need a little retail therapy. It feels good to get some new clothes and switch up your look once in a while. It keeps things interesting when your sick of wearing the same old leggings or sweatpants.
2. Grab a drink with a friend
Let’s face it. As a mom, we never have time to go out with friends anymore. But it’s good to catch up with a friend, hang out, relax, and have a few drinks.
3. Get a new do
I’m the type of girl to let my hair grow and then get something new done to my hair every once in a while. But I love doing something different each time.
4. Go to a yoga class
I haven’t done this in a while, but it’s definitely on my list of things to do when I have a day to myself. I would love to get up on a Saturday morning and get my day started right with an early morning yoga class. Bonus points if it’s hot yoga.
5. Start a new hobby
I am always interested in learning something new each day. You don’t always have to do something that you are already good at. So think about picking up a new hobby that you think you might be interested in. Last year, I learned a bit or two about outdoor photography. Now I am interested in learning how to draw on my iPad and creating graphics.
So have a day to yourself without having to feel guilty about spending time away from your family. It’s good for the soul, your mind, and your body. And you will feel good about yourself later on. Maybe you will even find a new outlook and start to see yourself differently too.
