How can you spot an old thrifty item that has lots of opportunities for a makeover? First, you must ask yourself… What is it that you are searching for in your next project? This is something that I always need to know each time I want to make something new.
Most of the time it is something that I want to add to my home decor collection. I am always thinking of ways to make my home look beautiful without having to break the bank. In fact, decorating your home with your own projects is the best way to budget. And you get to have your own style that fits you best. If I see something online that I love, I always try to put some of that inspiration into my next project.
I love being able to go to the thrift store and find old items that I can repurpose. Or even just adding a touch up of new paint colors is like a magical recreation of some sort. It’s amazing what you can do with one or two paint colors to freshen up the look of something.
If you are new to the DIY niche, then it is time to get in touch with your creative side. Imagine what you can do with the pieces that you have right in front of you. Start out with a thrift store or a local flea market and look at which items are available to you.
Hold onto whatever catches your eye
If you find something that catches your eye, hold onto it. And visualize what you can do with that item. Then think about whether you can repurpose this item into something new. Or whether it just needs to be refinished with a few layers of paint. If it can be repurposed, look for something else that can be used as an added touch for that old thrifty item you have just found.
When you spot an old thrifty item and you have found some pieces that go together, then imagine what you can create by thinking of what you can do with those pieces. For example, I was able to DIY some old thrift store junk into a gift that I gave to someone for Christmas. If you went into the thrift store and saw those wall decor pieces sitting on a shelf, your average person would never have thought about turning it into a farmhouse decor piece with a couple of old mason jars.
If you spot an old thrifty item, another way to spew out your creative mind is to think of what opportunities may be the best outcome for this project when combing your handy skills and the supplies that you already have. When you are always starting a completely new project, supplies can become expensive in the long run if you keep adding on. So maybe you have some chalk paint lying around that you never finished up using. This way, you are still saving money when you decide to start a new project.
Be creative with the finishing touches to your old thrifty item
Now that you already have an idea of what you want to do with your old thrifty item, think of what to add next to completely finish the project. What colors can you add to paint this project? Get inspired and imitate. Maybe you found something that you love on Pinterest. Don’t be afraid to copy that and add your own spin to it. Other than paint colors, search for items that will make your project even stand out more. These are the best parts of a project because you get to be creative with those finishing touches. And you get to create something that has your own style to it.
So now that you have an idea of how to spot an old thrifty item, go to the store and see what items catch your eye. You can really piece some things together when you put your mind to it. The most important thing that matters most is that you are having fun and being creative.
